A Brief History of AMP Connectors
AMP was founded during World War II in 1941 as the Aircraft and Marine Products (AMP) company. Their initial product was solderless electrical connections designed for the rapid and replaceable wires used in aircraft and ships.
During the post-war industrial expansion, AMP adapted to the new economy and, in 1956, changed its name to AMP Incorporated. In 1999 AMP was acquired by Tyco International. In July of 2007, Tyco International divided into three independent companies; Tyco Electronics Ltd, Covidien Ltd (formerly Tyco Healthcare), and Tyco International Ltd (formerly Tyco Fire & Security and Tyco Engineered Products & Services (TFS/TEPS)).
On March 10th, 2011, Tyco Electronics Ltd formally changed its name to TE Connectivity Ltd to more accurately reflect its dominant position as a creator of sensor and connectivity components.
